The Federation of Indonesian Teachers' Unions (FSGI) has suggested that thousands of electric motorcycles seized in a corruption case involving the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme should be auctioned, with the proceeds returned to the education sector. The union argues that the alleged corruption has already harmed education funding, causing cuts to teacher training and student competitions. FSGI also raised concerns that simply giving the motorcycles to teachers could cause social jealousy and may not be practical for those in remote 3T regions.

The Federation of Indonesian Teachers’ Unions (FSGI) has responded to
a proposal that electric motorcycles confiscated in the Free Nutritious
Meal (MBG) corruption case be given to teachers, suggesting instead that
the vehicles be auctioned and the funds returned to the education
sector. FSGI Secretary-General Fahriza Marta Tanjung stated that
confiscated goods cannot simply be handed over, as they must first go
through the legal process. “It could be suitable (to give the
motorcycles to teachers), but of course we must wait for the ongoing
legal process, until there is a ruling regarding the punishment of the
suspects and the utilisation of the confiscated electric motorcycles,”
Fahriza told Republika on Friday (19/6/2026).

FSGI fundamentally regrets the corruption case involving the MBG
programme, noting that a large portion of its budget comes from the 20
per cent education allocation in the state budget (APBN). This has
directly impacted the education sector. “Many activities have been made
efficient to the point they cannot be implemented optimally. For
example, for teacher training, training centres can no longer cover
participants’ travel expenses, which must now be borne by the teachers
themselves. This means teachers who live far from training centres
cannot attend,” Fahriza said. The union also lamented the disruption to
student competitions that are beneficial for capacity building, with
some events forced online instead of being held in person, and many
technical guidance activities organised by ministries no longer covering
travel costs.

Therefore, Fahriza proposed that the seized motorcycles be auctioned
so that the proceeds can be returned to the education sector. “So, if
these electric motorcycles have been seized by the state, it would be
better if their purchase value were converted into additional budget for
schools,” Fahriza said. “What was corrupted by the National Nutrition
Agency (BGN) came from the education budget; we hope it can be returned
to the education sector.” Fahriza also expressed concern that giving the
motorcycles to teachers could cause social jealousy, and even handing
them to teachers in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions
could create new problems, questioning whether the electric motorcycles’
characteristics are suited to the terrain and the availability of
electricity and service centres in those areas.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) sealed thousands
of EMMO electric motorcycles in connection with the investigation into
the alleged MBG programme corruption. The investigating team from the
Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) placed
red-and-white prosecutor’s office seals as a sign of temporary control
over approximately 6,000 electric motorcycles stored at the EMMO
Electric Mobility warehouse in the Sentul Industrial Area, Bogor, West
Java, on Wednesday (17/6/2026). Jampidsus Director of Investigations
Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi stated that the sealing was to ensure the
motorcycles do not move location or change hands, clarifying that the
action was not a formal seizure but a measure to secure the presence of
the vehicles.
",
