        "content": "<p>Teachers reject halfpayment<\/p>\n<p>JAMBI: School teachers in the province rejected the provincial<br>\ngovernment's plan to only award them 50 percent of their backpay,<br>\nsaying it was against the compromise, which both sides had agreed<br>\nto recently.<\/p>\n<p>Muftar, a teacher of a state junior high school in the city,<br>\nsaid all teachers would reject the provincial government's<br>\npayment of only 50 percent of their backpay and would continue<br>\nprotesting until their demands were fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>\"Both local authorities and the provincial legislative council<br>\nshould be consistent with the compromise they reached with<br>\nteachers recently. Teachers should no longer be subject to<br>\nextortion as they have battled hard to help improve the quality<br>\nof education in the province,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>All teachers in the province staged a four-day demonstration<br>\nlast month in an attempt to force the government to provide their<br>\nbackpay.
