        "content": "<p>Teachers bear burden for teaching ideology<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto yesterday reminded school<br>\nteachers of their heavy responsibility in teaching the national<br>\nideology of Pancasila to their pupils.<\/p>\n<p>\"The teachers must have deep convictions about the truth of<br>\nPancasila so that they can discuss the matter with their pupils<br>\nfrom the primary to the high school level,\" Soeharto was reported<br>\nto have said during a meeting with leaders of PGRI, the teachers<br>\nunion.<\/p>\n<p>Seven executives of the PGRI board, lead by chairman Basyuni<br>\nSuriamiharja, met with the President yesterday at Bina Graha to<br>\ndiscuss the union's upcoming congress in Jakarta. Soeharto has<br>\nagreed to open the congress which will run from July 4 to July 9.<\/p>\n<p>Soeharto called for special attention from teachers about the<br>\nteaching of Pancasila at the high school level. \"Make sure these<br>\nchildren can grasp the meaning of Pancasila so that they can be<br>\nspared from being drawn into accepting other ideologies.\"<\/p>\n<p>Pancasila is a compulsory subject in all schools up through<br>\nthe end of high school.
