Teachers are heroes without honors<\/p>\n

Young teachers are like torches which give light and guide our
\nlives. They wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to the progress of
\nstudents. This was contained in President Soeharto's speech on
\nthe occasion of the observance of Teachers Day held in the
\nSriwedari stadium in Surakata, Central Java, on Nov. 25, 1995. I
\nwas deeply touched, and I believe other people were impressed
\ntoo, by the President's sentiment for teachers.<\/p>\n
Let us recall the time when we were still ignorant kids in
\nelementary school, not knowing how to read, write, and count;
\nour teachers laboriously taught us with full responsibility until
\nwe became adults of intelligence.<\/p>\n
But sadly, by the time students become successful adults, such
\nas noted state dignitaries or entrepreneurs, they often forget
\nall about their former teachers. The President also said that
\n\"the merits and services of teachers are invaluable, something
\nmoney can't buy.\"<\/p>\n
Based on these suggestions, I think it would be most
\nappropriate for the government to acknowledge the merits of
\nteachers' and honor them by giving due attention to their
\nwelfare. Teachers deserve to be recognized as \"Heroes without
\nhonors.\"<\/p>\n
