Teacher may get 8 years for murder<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A teacher on trial for killing a police major
\nburst into tears yesterday when the prosecutor asked the court to
\nsentence him to eight years imprisonment for the offense.<\/p>\n
Public prosecutor Bonar Gultom told the East Jakarta District
\nCourt that the defendant deserved harsh punishment for the
\nkilling.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecutor, Baskoni Wahab, 50, is guilty of
\nkilling Maj. Noenang Kohar at about 7:30 p.m on Oct. 14 on Jl.
\nWismajaya, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Maj. Noenang Kohar was chief of the Pademangan police sub-
\nprecinct in Central Jakarta. He was on the way home when the
\nincident happened.<\/p>\n
\"The defendant violated article 354 of the Criminal Code and
\narticle two of the Emergency Law number 12, issued in 1955,\"
\nGultom pointed out.<\/p>\n
\"The defendant harms other people by carrying a knife
\neverywhere,\" he said, urging the court to take that fact into
\naccount.<\/p>\n
Judge Toni Hartono presided over yesterday's trial, assisted
\nby Zulkifli and Lombar Karokaro.<\/p>\n
Baskoni Wahab, a teacher at a private school of economics in
\nCawang, East Jakarta, cried when he heard the prosecution's
\nwords.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecutor, Baskoni shouted \"dog\" at Noenang
\nwhen the major's Daihatsu Taft preceded the bajaj carrying him.
\nA bajaj is a small three-wheel motorized transport vehicle.<\/p>\n
After being called a dog, Noenang tried to stop the bajaj but
\nBaskoni told the bajaj driver to continue on, Gultom said.
\nNoenang followed the bajaj and cut off it on Jl. Wismajaya, he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
When Noenang reportedly slapped Baskoni, the defendant parried
\nthe slap and then allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach
\nwith a knife, he said.<\/p>\n
The post mortem examination at the Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital
\nfound that Noenang's death was caused by the stab wound, the
\nprosecutor said.<\/p>\n
Judge Toni Hartono adjourned the trial until Nov. 22 to hear
