Teacher killed, another injured by separatists<\/p>\n
DILI, East Timor (JP): A school teacher was killed and another
\nseverely injured on Thursday afternoon when two separatist
\nguerrillas allegedly attacked a primary school in Uathohako,
\nBaucau, 160 kilometers east of here.<\/p>\n
Jacinto da Piedade, 31, was fatally shot in the chest, while
\nJulio Pereira, 34, was shot in the head in the school yard. The
\nschool is about four kilometers from a local military office.<\/p>\n
\"The two teachers were resting outside when two masked
\nguerrillas suddenly opened fire on them,\" East Timor Regional
\nMilitary Command spokesman Capt. Try Yoga said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The two victims were immediately taken to Wira Husada Army
\nHospital in Dili by an Army helicopter, but Jacinto died before
\nreceiving medical treatment.<\/p>\n
Try said the two guerrillas fled before military troops
\narrived on the scene.<\/p>\n
\"This killing is unacceptable by any means. They (the
\nseparatists) have acted like terrorists,\" the spokesman said.<\/p>\n
Last month, in two separate incidents, guerrillas allegedly
\nattacked and killed five soldiers and six civilians.<\/p>\n
The first attack came when guerrillas shot at a truck carrying
\nvillagers working on road construction in Manatuto, 80 kilometers
\neast of Dili.<\/p>\n
The second incident occurred several hours later when
\nguerrillas ambushed a military vehicle carrying soldiers and
\ncivilians. Five soldiers and one civilian were killed in the
\nambush.<\/p>\n
\"They no longer have any idealism left... they've all gone
\nmad, killing randomly like that,\" East Timor Military Commander
\nSalamat Sidabutar said.<\/p>\n
East Timor was integrated as Indonesia's 27th province in
\n1976. The United Nations, however, still regards Portugal as the
\nadministrative power.<\/p>\n
In a related development, AFP reported that the United Nations
\nannounced Wednesday that the All Inclusive Intra East Timorese
\nDialogs (AETD) would convene in Austria from Oct. 20 to Oct. 23.<\/p>\n
The informal multiparty talks will involve pro-Indonesian
\ngroups and exiled anti-integration groups. They held their first
\nmeeting in March last year.<\/p>\n
The announcement came as Indonesia and Portugal opened a
\nsecond round of talks at an ambassadorial level Wednesday on the
\nfuture of East Timor. The talks include special UN envoy for East
\nTimor Jamsheed Marker.<\/p>\n
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas and his Portuguese
\ncounterparts have held several negotiations under UN auspices
