Teach our children well<\/p>\n
On May 16, junior high school students in Karangasem, Bali,
\nhad to take their 120-minute English language test.<\/p>\n
The last test page showed the following questions: Indonesia
\nis a large archipelago (Correct). It lies between Asia and
\nAustralia continents, between Indonesia (How can it lie between
\nitself?) and Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n
It extends between 60 degree of north latitude (that would
\nmean somewhere around Oslo, Norway, Leningrad, Russia, Alaska,
\nCanada or the southern tip of Greenland) and 110 degree of south
\nlatitude (latitude is measured from 0 degree to 90 degree south
\nor north; 0 degree is the Equator, 90 degree are the poles --
\nthere is no 110 degree latitude on this globe!) and between 95
\npercent (should it mean degree?) west longitude (Indonesia does
\nnot lie at all on the Western longitude!) and 141 percent east
\nlongitude.<\/p>\n
This is a completely unacceptable way to test students and
\nshows a great deal of ignorance. In which lottery did the person
\nresponsible for this test win his diploma?<\/p>\n
