The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) suspects that 16 individuals\nwere involved in the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus on 12\nMarch 2026. TAUD representative Alghiffari Aqsa stated that this\nsuspicion stems from TAUD\u2019s internal findings, which investigated based\non recordings from 37 surveillance cameras around the incident location\non Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Alghiffari explained that TAUD initially suspected 19 people captured\non the surveillance cameras. However, TAUD narrowed the number of\nsuspected field perpetrators to 16 based on their interconnected\npositions around the attack site on Andrie.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we adjusted several CCTV footages and compared them, and it\nturned out these people were coordinating. It turned out these people\nwere at the same point. It turned out these people were signalling to\neach other,\u201d he said during a hearing with Commission III of the House\nof Representatives (DPR) at the Senayan DPR complex in Jakarta on\nTuesday, 31 March 2026.<\/p>\n
TAUD consists of several non-governmental organisations urging the\ngovernment to uncover the chain of command behind the acid attack on the\nDeputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of\nViolence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus. They include KontraS, the Indonesian\nLegal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta),\nLBH Pers, Amar Law Firm, Imparsial, Trend Asia, and Greenpeace\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
On 12 March, the police only released two suspected perpetrators who\nacted as the executors of the attack during a press conference on 18\nMarch. Meanwhile, at the same time, the Indonesian National Armed Forces\n(TNI) stated that they had detained four suspected perpetrators from the\nStrategic Intelligence Agency\u2019s Military Police Unit (Denma). Metro Jaya\nPolice stated that the police had handed over this case to the TNI\nMilitary Police Centre.<\/p>\n
Alghiffari expressed surprise at the discrepancy in the number of\nperpetrators released by the police and TNI. He also highlighted the\nclosed nature of the TNI\u2019s investigation, which to this day has not\nreleased the identities of the suspected perpetrators.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo there is a violation of the principle of equality before the law.\nIf civilians are paraded in front of the media, paraded in front of the\npublic that these are the perpetrators. Then we can confirm with\nwitnesses or victims that these are the perpetrators,\u201d said\nAlghiffari.<\/p>\n
He hopes that the investigation of this case does not end when the\npolice hand it over to the TNI Military Police Centre. Alghiffari\nemphasised that TAUD, along with a coalition of civil society, is urging\nthe formation of a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to thoroughly and\nindependently investigate this case.<\/p>\n
TAUD assesses the acid attack as a planned intelligence operation\nagainst civil society, referring to the mobility of the 16 people\nsuspected of stalking and tailing Andrie\u2019s activities, throwing the\nacid, and conditioning the field.<\/p>\n
