        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2013 The Task Force for Acceleration of Post-Disaster\nRehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) in Sumatra continues to\naccelerate the utilisation of driftwood as part of rehabilitation and\nreconstruction strategy in disaster-affected regions across Aceh\nProvince, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar).<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Chairman of the Post-Disaster Sumatra\nRehabilitation Task Force, emphasised that driftwood utilisation\nrepresents a strategic step to expedite the reconstruction of affected\nareas whilst ensuring that available materials in the field are deployed\noptimally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Aceh there is extremely abundant material. It is like an ocean.\nAn ocean of what? Wood. So if you want to make it into firewood it\u2019s\neasy, you can,\u201d Tito stated in his remarks in Jakarta on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Task Force data from 28 February, driftwood utilisation\nefforts have been implemented across several affected areas. In Aceh\nProvince, North Aceh District has documented 2,112.11 cubic metres of\ntimber being utilised for temporary housing construction. Meanwhile, in\nAceh Tamiang District, 572.4 cubic metres of timber remain pending\nregional government policy decisions regarding its allocation.<\/p>\n<p>In North Sumatra Province, South Tapanuli District is utilising\n329.24 cubic metres of timber for temporary housing, social facilities,\nand public infrastructure development. In Central Tapanuli District,\n93.39 cubic metres of timber is being used to support the recovery of\nresidents\u2019 homes.<\/p>\n<p>In West Sumatra, Padang City has recorded 1,996.58 cubic metres of\ndriftwood that has been handed over to the regional government for\ndeployment according to rehabilitation and reconstruction needs.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Forestry Regulation\nNo.\u00a0191 of 2026, which governs the utilisation of disaster-related\ndriftwood as a material resource to support emergency response,\nrehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts. The policy provides legal\ncertainty in managing timber swept by floods so it can be deployed\neffectively and in a coordinated manner.<\/p>\n<p>According to Tito, optimising driftwood utilisation not only\naccelerates the provision of housing and supporting infrastructure, but\nalso forms part of efforts to organise affected areas to make them\ncleaner, safer, and better planned.<\/p>\n<p>With clear regulatory support and cross-ministerial coordination\nalongside local government, the rehabilitation and reconstruction\nprocess is expected to proceed more effectively and with better\ntargeting.<\/p>",
