Tarakanita staff stage protest<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): About 50 lecturers and staff of the Tarakanita
\nSecretarial College (LPK Tarakanita), Pondok Kelapa, East
\nJakarta, staged a demonstration at the Legal Aid Foundation here
\non Tuesday, protesting their suspension by the Tarakanita
\nFoundation.<\/p>\n
The dispute has been going on for a year, ever since the
\nprotesters asked for better working conditions and a pay rise.<\/p>\n
According to A.J Lumban Gaol, a lecturer at the college, a
\nnumber of staff members were still being paid less than the
\nprovincial minimum wage of Rp 426,250 (US$ 37,51) per month.<\/p>\n
The management of the college had refused to meet and discuss
\nthe matter with them and instead had suspended those who
\nparticipated in the protest action, he said.<\/p>\n
In response to their demands, the Tarakanita Foundation had
\nissued a simple ultimatum: Keep working for the Tarakanita
\nFoundation or resign. (06)<\/p>",
