        "content": "<p>Tarakan City, North Kalimantan Province, has entered a state of alert\nbased on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics\nAgency (BMKG) following a magnitude 7.7 tectonic earthquake in Mindanao,\nPhilippines, which occurred on Monday at 06:37 WIB.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe centre of this tectonic earthquake is located specifically in\nthe South Coast region of Mindanao, Philippines,\u201d stated Wijayanto,\nDirector of Earthquakes and Tsunamis at BMKG, in a press release on\nMonday.<\/p>\n<p>BMKG analysis indicates that the updated parameters of the earthquake\nshow a magnitude of M7.7, with the epicentre located at coordinates\n5.80\u00b0N; 125.14\u00b0E, specifically in the sea at a distance of 244\nkilometres northwest of Karatung Island, North Sulawesi, at a depth of\n47 km.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wijayanto, considering the location of the epicentre and\nthe depth of the hypocentre, the earthquake is classified as a shallow\nearthquake caused by plate subduction activity.<\/p>\n<p>Modelling results indicate that this earthquake carries a tsunami\npotential, with \u2018alert\u2019 (siaga) status issued for Minahasa,\nBolaangmongondow, Manado, North Minahasa, South Minahasa, Buol, Sangihe\nIslands, Gorontalo, Talaud Islands, Minahasa Islands, Toli-toli, Palu,\nDonggala, Ternate, and Bitung.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA \u2018warning\u2019 (waspada) status has been issued for Tidore City,\nBulungan, Nunukan, Halmahera, Tarakan City, North Halmahera, East Kutai,\nSouth Minahasa, Bontang, and Berau,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding this potential threat, the recommendation for regions under\n\u2018alert\u2019 status is to move away from the coast towards safer, higher\nground. For those under \u2018warning\u2019 status, residents are advised to avoid\nthe coast and refrain from any activities near the shoreline or\nriverbanks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs of 07:00 WIB, BMKG monitoring has detected one aftershock with a\nmaximum magnitude of M6.7,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>",
