Tapioca plant in pollution hot water<\/p>\n
BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: A tapioca factory has paid Rp 7
\nmillion compensation to local residents who charged it with
\nenvironmental pollution and disrupting their livelihood in
\nCentral Lampung.<\/p>\n
The decision followed two demonstrations by hundreds of
\nfishery workers in the community who demanded Rp 10 million in
\ncompensation.<\/p>\n
Accompanied by local authorities, residents reached an
\nagreement with the plant owner, Sutrisno, at the village hall of
\nSanggah Buana in Seputih Bank regency, Antara reported Friday.<\/p>\n
The plant near the Way Seputih River was accused of polluting
\nthe environment when the plant's waste container overflowed
\nduring rain. Fishermen said they protested after noticing the
\nscarcity of fish in the past two months.<\/p>\n
Company management staff admitted waste tank could not hold
\nthe rain spillover. \"However, our waste water tank has met
