Tanzania\u2019s Vice President, Emmanuel Nchimbi, has unexpectedly decided\nto resign from his post. The move marks a historic first as the\nresignation of a vice president in the East African country.<\/p>\n

Through a short letter posted on his personal\nInstagram account, the 54-year-old politician stated he was stepping\ndown to honour the president\u2019s wishes\u2014news that has been confirmed by\nthe presidency and internal sources in his office.<\/p>\n
Emmanuel stated that he will retire from public life at the end of\nnext week. The resignation comes less than 10 months after he was sworn\nin as Samia\u2019s deputy.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that the pair previously won the presidential\nelection in October last year and were officially inaugurated in\nNovember after sweeping 98% of the vote.
