Tansil proposes deal to handle Bapindo losses<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A lawyer for Eddy Tansil said yesterday that his
\nclient has offered several of his companies, which he claims to
\nbe worth about Rp 1.5 trillion (US$698 million), as compensation
\nfor the losses caused by his default on loans from the state
\nDevelopment Bank of Indonesia (Bapindo).<\/p>\n
Gani Djemat told The Jakarta Post and Kompas dailies that
\nTansil decided on Monday to transfer the management and ownership
\nof eight of his companies to the government to repay his
\nsyndicated loans from Bapindo and three other state banks--Bank
\nDagang Negara, Bank Ekspor Impor Indonesia and Bank BNI.<\/p>\n
Tansil, the owner of the Golden Key Group, is one of the main
\nsuspects in the investigation of loan scandal at state-owned
\nBapindo estimated to involve Rp 1.3 trillion, including interest
\ncharges.<\/p>\n
Tansil, currently in the custody of the Attorney General, is
\naccused of corruption and illegally disbursing loans.<\/p>\n
Gani said the eight companies are P.T. Hamparan Rejeki, P.T.
\nGraha Swakarsa Prima, P.T. Dinamika Erajaya, P.T. Pusaka Warna
\nPolypropylene, P.T. Cilegon Multi Wahana Service, P.T. Materindo
\nSuprametal Work, P.T. Glasifibindo Indah and P.T. Sukma Beta
\nSempurna.<\/p>\n
\"The state banks may assign an independent appraisal company
\nto estimate the value of the eight companies,\" Gani said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile A. Sutomo, the Deputy Attorney General for Special
\nCrimes, said separately that the Attorney General's Office has
\nreceived Tansil's proposal for transferring his eight companies
\nand is still evaluating the offer.<\/p>\n
Sutomo said his office has frozen all of Tansil's accounts in
\nseveral banks and seized 21 houses belonging to him. But he did
\nnot mention the total value of Tansil's foreclosed assets and the
\namount of state losses thus far recovered.<\/p>\n
The deputy Attorney General said his office will soon summon
\nNasrudin Sumintapura, the former junior minister of finance, as
\nwell as J.B. Sumarlin, chairman of the Supreme Audit Agency, for
\ninterrogation.<\/p>\n
He said that they will be questioned to collect additional
\ninformation for the trial of the six suspects already arrested.<\/p>\n
Sudomo, chairman of the Supreme Advisory Council, and under
\nallegations of influence peddling, has already testified before
\nthe prosecutors.<\/p>\n
But Sutomo said his office has not set a date for the
\nquestioning since both officials are reportedly very busy.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Muhammad Assegaf, who assists Harjono Tjitrosoebono
\nin defending Sjahrizal, a former Bapindo president, said that
\nthey would demand Sudomo, Sumarlin and Nasrudin testify before
\nthe court.<\/p>\n
\"We will not have the chance to examine their testimony if the
\nthree high officials do not appear in court,\" Assegaf said.<\/p>\n
Four other suspects have been arrested by the Attorney
\nGeneral's Office. They are Subekti Ismaun and Towil Heryoto, both
\nformer Bapindo's presidents; Bambang Kuntjoro, former Bapindo
\nDirector and Maman Suparman, former Bapindo Jakarta deputy
