Tanker train derails in Banyumas<\/p>\n
BANYUMAS, Central Java (JP): A tanker train carrying 360,000
\nliters of diesel was derailed in Banyumas regency, Central Java,
\non its way from Cilacap to Tegal, also in Central Java, on
\nSunday, causing at least 18 trains using the Purwokerto-Jakarta
\nline to be delayed for nine hours. No fatalities were reported.<\/p>\n
The tanker train went off the tracks at Karanggandul village,
\nbetween Karanggandul and Karangsari railroad stations, Supriyadi,
\na spokesman for the railroad company PT KAI in Purwokerto, said
\non Monday.<\/p>\n
Repair work undertaken by PT KAI's Purwokerto workshop was
\nfinished on Monday morning, enabling the tanker train to proceed
\nsafely to Tegal and the resumption of regular rail services via
\nBanyumas.<\/p>\n
Supriyadi said a team had been set up to investigate the
\nincident.<\/p>\n
Sunday's accident took place only two weeks after the
\ncountry's worst rail disaster so far this year, in which a
\nYogyakarta-bound train rammed into a locomotive at Cirebon
\nstation, West Java, killing at least 41 people.<\/p>\n
Among the executive trains whose departures were canceled due
\nto the tanker car derailment were the Gajayana, Taksaka, Bima and
\nArgo Dwipangga expresses, all of which use the line between
\nPurwokerto and Jakarta.<\/p>\n
No shortage of supplies in gas stations in Pekalongan, Tegal,
\nBrebes or Pemalang were reported following the tanker train's
\ndelayed arrival.<\/p>\n
\"Customers who failed to travel due to the accident received a
\nticket refund, and the passengers who were stranded received
\ncompensation in the form of complimentary meals,\" Supriyadi
\nadded.<\/p>\n
The railroad company's losses arising from the derailment and
\nthe refunds have not yet been estimated, \"but the important thing
\nis to restore railroad services to normal,\" he concluded. (45)<\/p>\n
