        "content": "<p>Tangerang workers vow to stay on strike<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): About 100 striking employees of plastic wares<br>\nproducer PT Wingoh Albindo of Tangerang took their demand for a<br>\nwage increase to the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute yesterday after<br>\ntheir firm's executives denied them a hearing.<\/p>\n<p>On strike for the past three days, they visited the Jakarta<br>\nLegal Aid Institute office on Jl. Diponegoro, Central Jakarta, to<br>\nseek legal advice.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters' spokesman, identified as Ucok, said they<br>\ndemanded the company, located on Jl. Daan Mogot, raise their<br>\nwages by 15 percent in line with the recent increase in minimum<br>\nregional wages, from Rp 172,500 per month to Rp 198,000.<\/p>\n<p>\"We also ask that an increase of 5 percent given by the<br>\ncompany last month is not rescinded.\"<\/p>\n<p>He said workers were extremely disappointed by the failure to<br>\nmeet the company's president, Holly Wingoh, even though they had<br>\nmade repeated requests.<\/p>\n<p>Accompanied by Andi Wahyudin Djalil, a lawyer of the<br>\ninstitute, the workers later went to the Tangerang office of the<br>\nMinistry of Manpower, where they were scheduled to hold talks<br>\nwith representatives of the firm.<\/p>\n<p>But after Holly, who was scheduled to attend the meeting, was<br>\na no-show, the workers decided not to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Abidin, the firm's deputy director, said that Holly could not<br>\nattend because he had to leave for Bogor.<\/p>\n<p>\"We just want to meet with Pak Holly, not you. He promised<br>\nus,\" one of the workers shouted angrily.<\/p>\n<p>They became increasingly irate and some female workers began<br>\nto cry. One fainted in the emotion-charged atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>They said they would continue to strike until their demand was<br>\nmet.<\/p>\n<p>Manpower officials and representatives of the firm pledged to<br>\narrange another meeting today.<\/p>\n<p>\"I don't understand why Holly should evade the constructive<br>\ndialog with his own employees for no reason,\" Andi said.<br>\n(jun\/ivy\/27)<\/p>",
