Tangerang offices open on Saturday<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): People here hail the decision of the regency
\nto rearrange Saturday as a working day .<\/p>\n
Many residents were seen flocking to government offices, such
\nas the civil registration office and the building supervision
\nagency, which issues building permits.<\/p>\n
"Now I can arrange the birth certificate of my child by myself
\non Saturday. If Saturday were a holiday I would have to ask
\nsomebody else to do it," Sanusi, a resident of Tangerang said.<\/p>\n
For the past year, Saturday has been a holiday for civil
\nservants here, following the policy in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The policy to make Saturday a working day again came into
\neffect as of Aug. 5.<\/p>\n
Regency's spokesman Nurhayat said the new policy made by Mayor
\nDjakaria Machmud is aimed at stepping up services to the public.<\/p>\n
"People who want to arrange their businesses on Saturday were
\nforced to do it on Monday because Saturday and Sunday were
\nholidays," said Nurhayat.<\/p>\n
"This hampered the regency's services to the people."<\/p>\n
However, among the public, notably the civil servants, there
\nare still those for and against it.<\/p>\n
"If I could choose, I would prefer Saturday as a holiday
\nbecause I can rest and have time with my family," said Agus, an
\nemployee of the regency.<\/p>\n
"I used to do my gardening on Saturday but now I have been
\nforced to find another day to do it," said Rachmat, an employee
