Raya Serpong<br>\nare desperately needed, residents say.<\/p>\n<p>Usman, a public minibus driver, said recently that he often<br>\nhad near misses with pedestrians crossing the road. Another<br>\nresident, Saeful, said that he had witnessed several accidents<br>\nalong the busy 10-kilometer stretch.<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post observed that the five most crowded points<br>\nwere at the Gading Serpong intersection, Gading Serpong Plaza,<br>\nWTC Matahari, Giant supermarket and BSD plaza.<\/p>\n<p>The road has become more crowded because it also links<br>\nTangerang and Bogor now. Serpong has also experienced rapid<br>\ndevelopment with several new shopping centers and hundeds of new<br>\nhomes.<\/p>\n<p>The Banten provincial administration is widening both sides of<br>\nthe road in a project valued at Rp 5 billion (US$550,660), but it<br>\ndoes not call for the installment of pedestrian crossings. -- JP<\/p>",
