Tangerang in clutches of prostitution<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: An urban watchdog and ulemas on Thursday called for
\nserious action to be taken against prostitution, which is
\nwidespread in several districts between the town and South
\nJakarta and West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
"The beverage and food stalls in Pondok Ranji, Tegal Rotan and
\nPondok Kacang in Ciputat district, also Pondok Aren and Pamulang
\ndistricts, are used for disguised prostitution, but the
\nadministration does nothing to stop this," said Amin Syarbini,
\nchairman of the Tangerang branch of the Indonesian Council of
\nUlemas (MUI).<\/p>\n
Muslim preacher, ustad Komarudin of Sawah Lama village,
\nCiputat, said the residents had tried hard not to take the law
\ninto their own hands.<\/p>\n
Suhaimai Ismedi, the director of Tangerang Shelter, said the
\nadministration had yet to take any action although the health
\nagency had found one AIDS case in Dadap village.<\/p>\n
"The regency is surrounded by red-light districts. We have
\nfound new ones in Dadap village, and on the banks of the Kali
\nPerancis river and Sungai Tahang river in Kosambi district, which
\nborders with West Jakarta," he said. --JP<\/p>",
