TANGERANG: A total of 113 couples, including some
\ngrandparents, gathered together for a mass wedding on Tuesday in
\nCisoka district of Tangerang. The event was organized by Dian
\nMitra, a local social foundation.<\/p>\n
The residents of five villages across the district: Sukatani,
\nSukareo, Cikasuka, Cikuya and Cempaka participated.<\/p>\n
The oldest couple at the mass wedding Mamat, 60, and Sukirnah,
\n56, have three children and several grandchildren.<\/p>\n
"We feel like a new bride and groom," said Mamat.<\/p>\n
Both Mamat and Sukirnah said they did not remember how many
\nyears they had been together. Also, they did not apply for the
\nmarriage certificate as they could not afford the fees.<\/p>\n
The foundation held the mass wedding to help the poor people
\nobtain the legal documents for their marriage, according to Toto,

\nAngry residents burn down house

TANGERANG: Some 200 residents of Leuwi Halu village in
\nTigaraksa district of Tangerang burned down a house which was
\nbelieved to have been used to spread misleading religious
\nteaching practices on Monday evening.<\/p>\n
Tigaraksa subprecinct police chief Adj. Comr. Purwadi
\nsaid on Tuesday that the angry residents arrived at 8:30
\np.m., when some 50 people were reading wirid (religious prayer)
\nled by Haitami, 40, the house owner.<\/p>\n
The residents yelled. They scolded Haitami and his
\ncongregation and threw stones at the house. Minutes later,
\nsome shouted "burn the house," so they immediately torched the
\nhouse which was leveled to the ground. A motorcyle was also
\nburned in the incident.<\/p>\n
The congregation, comprising of married couples and their
\nchildren, as well as Haitami, managed to escape.<\/p>\n
Purwadi said the police regretted the incident, but no one has

\nRenovation of Pondok Gede market sought

BEKASI: Hundreds of garment vendors from Pondok Gede market
\nurged the local administration to renovate the market, which is
\nnow in poor condition.<\/p>\n
The traders, grouped in the Association of Pondok Gede Market
\nVendors, complained that the market was badly in need of
\nrenovation as it was damaged by fire three years ago.<\/p>\n
They said that they were afraid that if it rained hard, the
\nwater would pour down through the leaks in the roof.<\/p>\n
"People would be reluctant to visit the market and worse, the
\nwater would damage our merchandise," Sarmada, one of the vendors
\ntold Antara on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He hoped that the Bekasi administration would immediately
\nrenovate the market so that the work would be finished by the
\nRamadhan fasting month in November.<\/p>\n
Garment vendors always enjoy a brisk business during Ramadhan
