Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung acknowledged that traders at Pasar
Tanah Abang continue to face significant challenges from competition
with online trading platforms.

He assessed that trading conditions are beginning to show improvement
across various sectors, although full recovery has not yet been
achieved.

“I asked them, and most said there is indeed some improvement
beginning. Whilst it’s not yet as expected, the increases are only
around 20 to 30 per cent, but there is improvement,” Pramono stated in
Central Jakarta on Thursday (12 March).

According to him, one factor intensifying competition is the growth
of product sales through social media and digital platforms.

“The main competitors are those operating online with TikTok and
similar platforms,” Pramono said.

He noted that these conditions are prompting many Tanah Abang traders
to begin adapting to changes in consumer shopping patterns.

“So now most of them, in addition to selling at this location, are
also opening online businesses as well,” said the PDIP politician.

He hopes that digital transformation by traders can help expand their
markets whilst sustaining businesses at the trading centre. The national
road network has reached 93.5 per cent stability.
",
