Talk show halted in midbroadcast<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A political talk show on private TV station
\nIndosiar abruptly went off the air in midbroadcast last night,
\nwith the station later blaming the interruption on \"technical\"
\nproblems.<\/p>\n
Jointly hosted by social commentator Wimar Witoelar and
\neconomist Sjahrir, Dialog Aktual's topic was the government's
\nplan to regulate freedom of expression.<\/p>\n
The show, scheduled from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., went off the air
\nafter 15 minutes. It was replaced by a prerecorded musical
\nprogram.<\/p>\n
No immediate explanation was forthcoming from IndoSiar, but it
\nlater announced that \"due to a technical error\" it was unable to
\ncontinue the show.<\/p>\n
The show's guests included constitutional expert Dimyati
\nHartono, political scientist of the National Institute of
\nSciences Indria Samego and economist Chatib Basri.<\/p>\n
Wimar said in the program's opening that he had invited
\nMinister of Justice Muladi to take part but he turned down the
\noffer.<\/p>\n
The hosts and their guests proceeded to denounce the
\ngovernment's plan before the show was suddenly interrupted.<\/p>\n
Contacted by The Jakarta Post late last night, a person
\nidentifying himself as a member of the station's programming
\ndepartment also attributed the disruption to \"merely a technical
\nmatter\", but referred further inquiries to the public relations
