Take legal action against fire starters<\/p>\n

It is reassuring to hear the concern expressed by the
\ncommunity, the press and especially President Soeharto about the
\nforest fires. The haze has meanwhile been exported to our
\nneighboring countries.<\/p>\n
Forest concessionaires say that the fires are a disaster.
\nOther related agencies, however, hint at intentional action --
\nmeaning it is forest burning not forest fires.<\/p>\n
I would like to see some seriousness on the part of the
\ngovernment to take firmer steps against the intentional
\nviolations of businesspeople.<\/p>\n
It should not rest at the revocation of their licenses but
\nlead to legal action too. I am sure that the government has made
\nvery strict regulations for businesspeople to obtain forest
\nexploitation licenses.<\/p>\n
I take my hat off to the press who have shown courage in
\nreporting the events which mar the face of Indonesia in the
\nworld's eyes.<\/p>\n
It is hoped that the reports are made as transparent as
\npossible in order for the whole community to know who was truly
\ninvolved in burning the forests.<\/p>\n
But it would be so much better if proactive measures were
\ntaken.<\/p>\n
