        "content": "<p>Take firm action <br>\nagainst GAM<\/p>\n<p>From Koran Tempo<\/p>\n<p>For many years the Acehnese have been suffering because of <br>\nirresponsible acts by such secessionist groups as the Free Aceh <br>\nMovement (GAM). The armed conflict in Aceh has inflicted untold <br>\nsuffering and claimed many lives on both sides -- the government <br>\nand the rebel groups. Negotiations have been held and agreements <br>\nreached but GAM has time and again violated them.<\/p>\n<p>The latest peace deal between the Indonesian government and <br>\nGAM should have been signed last October or early this month but, <br>\nagain, GAM has postponed it. The Acehnese really hope that this <br>\nlatest round of negotiations will bring about lasting peace to <br>\nthe region.<\/p>\n<p>As it seems that GAM is always postponing the conclusion of a <br>\npeace agreement, the government must take tough action against <br>\nthe group. Isn&apos;t it obvious that GAM is seeking to secede from <br>\nthe Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia?<\/p>\n<p>I fully support the firm stance taken by Army chief Gen. <br>\nRyamizard Ryacudu, who has said that if GAM refuses to surrender  <br>\nthe Indonesian Military will not hesitate to crush it. This <br>\nstatement must not serve as only a bluff, but must be turned into <br>\naction. A separatist movement like GAM, however small, must not <br>\nbe tolerated as it will pose a threat to the country&apos;s national <br>\nsecurity and integrity.<\/p>\n<p>PONOHADI<\/p>\n<p>Bogor, West Java<\/p>",
