        "content": "<p>Taiwan minister visits RI<\/p>\n<p>TAIPEI (AFP): Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Chih-<br>\nkang left for Indonesia Monday for talks on bilateral cooperation<br>\nin energy development.<\/p>\n<p>Wang, whose delegation includes officials from the energy<br>\ncommission, the state-run Taiwan Power Company and Chinese<br>\nPetroleum Corp., will attend an annual ministerial-level meeting<br>\ndue to start later Monday, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan Power and its Indonesian counterpart will sign a<br>\nmemorandum on technical cooperation, which \"would bring positive<br>\neffect to electricity and coal supplies in Taiwan\" Wang said<br>\nbefore his departure.<\/p>\n<p>About 30 percent of coal and 60 percent of natural gas<br>\nconsumed in Taiwan comes from Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Bilateral trade fell 27 percent in 1998 to 3.15 billion US<br>\ndollars on the back of regional financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan suffered a trade deficit of 1.05 billion dollars last<br>\nyear largely due to imports of crude oil, natural gas and coal<br>\nfrom Indonesia.<\/p>",
