Syrian university mulls cooperation<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The University of Damascus in Syria, is
\ninterested in cooperating with the Syarif Hidayatullah State
\nAcademy of Islamic Studies (IAIN) in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Rector assistant Suwito told Antara on Saturday that Bachar
\nJakfar from the Syrian Embassy had met him several days ago to
\nexpress the university's interest in building a cooperation.<\/p>\n
IAIN, he said, would receive books, especially those on
\nscience and Islamic studies. The assistance is quite important,
\nespecially as IAIN is in the process of becoming a state
\nuniversity, he said.<\/p>\n
Suwito said the University of Damascus was still considering
\nthe cooperation, but he noted that Bachar seemed interested in
\nIAIN's system of teaching. In addition, there are a number of
\nSyrians who study Islam at the institute, he said.<\/p>\n
IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah has a cooperation with a number of
\nforeign universities, such as Al-Azhar University in Cairo,
\nEgypt, and the University of Muhammad Sa'ud in Riyadh, Saudi
\nArabia.<\/p>\n
It also cooperates with 27 local universities and other
\nvarious institutes.<\/p>",
