Symposium to save PWI<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Dozens of journalists in the Journalists Forum for
\nthe Salvation of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) are
\nto hold a national symposium here on Nov. 21 with the theme of
\nsalvaging the association.<\/p>\n
PWI's Yogyakarta branch deputy chairman Masduki Atamami said
\nthe symposium would feature as speakers the association's founder
\nRosihan Anwar, Kompas daily chief editor Jacob Oetama, deputy
\nchief editor of the Semarang-based Suara Merdeka daily Sasongko
\nTedjo, director of Dr. Soetomo Press Education Institute
\nAtmakusumah and former Kompas journalist Satrio Arismunandar, who
\nwas expelled from the association in 1994.<\/p>\n
\"We expect inputs from the speakers in order to reach a
\nsolution to face the future of PWI in the 21st century. The
\nsolution could be a declaration or something else,\" Masduki said.<\/p>\n
He said the participants were expected to share their opinions
\nto make the association free from personal interest or usable by
\ncertain people for their own ends.<\/p>\n
He said he would invite association members from across the
\ncountry, including the association's reform faction led by
\nBudiman S. Hartojo, to attend. (23\/jun)<\/p>",
