        "content": "<p>The Indonesian Senior Journalists Union (SWSI) has demanded that\nlawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea offer a public apology and clarification for\nmaking disparaging remarks about the journalistic profession during a\npublic forum. In a press statement signed by SWSI Chairman Wahyu Muryadi\nin Jakarta on Sunday, the union stressed that press freedom and the\nright of journalists to ask questions are integral parts of the\nimplementation of Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press.\n\u201cJournalists work to fulfil the public\u2019s right to information,\u201d Muryadi\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>SWSI was responding to comments made by Hotman during a press\nconference related to an alleged corruption case involving former Junior\nAttorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. During the\nevent, Hotman made belittling remarks, including asking journalists, \u201cDo\nyou have a brain?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muryadi noted that the handling of the case involving Febrie\nAdriansyah has attracted widespread public attention. He stated that the\nmatter is no longer solely about an individual undergoing a legal\nprocess, but also concerns the credibility of law enforcement\ninstitutions and the consistency of applying the principle of equality\nbefore the law. SWSI expressed its full support for the legal process to\nbe conducted independently, professionally, transparently, and\naccountably, free from any form of intervention, pressure, conflict of\ninterest, or criminalisation.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, SWSI reminded all parties that the entire legal process\nmust uphold the presumption of innocence, be based on valid evidence,\nand follow proper legal procedures to ensure equality before the law for\nevery citizen. The union also called on all advocate organisations to\nmaintain the honour of the profession as an officium nobile by enforcing\ntheir respective codes of ethics. SWSI clarified that its statement of\nposition is entirely unrelated to the substance of the ongoing legal\ncase or the defence strategy, which remains the right of every\nadvocate.<\/p>",
