        "content": "<p>Swiss-KL telecom deal<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Swiss Telecom PTT will formalize its<br>\nacquisition of 30 percent of Malaysia's Mutiara Telecoms Sdn Bhd<br>\nfor 710 million ringgit (US$285 million) this week, company<br>\nofficials said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>An agreement on \"completion of investment and formalization of<br>\npartners\" between the two parties is to be signed on Thursday, a<br>\nMutiara official told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>Mutiara, controlled by billionaire businessmen Tan Chee Yioun,<br>\nwill be the second local telecommunications firm to have a<br>\nsubstantial foreign partner, the other being Binariang Sdn Bhd.<br>\nU.S. West owns 40 percent of Binariang.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts said Swiss Telecom was effectively valuing Mutiara at<br>\nclose to $1 billion, with about $100 million for Mutiara's<br>\npotentially lucrative international gateway license alone.<\/p>\n<p>Mutiara is said to have invested nearly 700 million ringgit<br>\ninto its cellular operations and infrastructure for its planned<br>\ninternational business.<\/p>",
