Swiss firm develops marine reserve park<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Sulawesi will soon have another marine reserve
\ngarden in Tomia, Southeast of the island, in addition to the
\nBunaken sea park near Manado, North Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
The new sea park is being developed by the Impac Group of
\nSwitzerland on this 115-square-kilometer island about 432
\nkilometers from Kendari, the capital of Southeast Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
The island which is also known as Tomea is located in the
\nTukang Besi waters in Buton regency.<\/p>\n
A director of the Impac Group, Loarenz Maedar, said in Kendari
\nthat the sea park in Tomia would attract both Indonesian and
\nforeign tourists as it has unique assets compared with other
\nmarine reserves in the country.<\/p>\n
"Tomia has aquatic sponges, corals and vertebrates," Antara
\nnews agency quoted Maedar as saying.<\/p>\n
He said that his company would provide environmental tourism
\nin Tomia, offering visitors scuba diving and snorkeling as well
\nas traditional arts and cultures.<\/p>\n
The Swiss company has launched a series of overseas promotions
\nfor the marine reserve in Tomia and expects to see the first
\ntourist arrivals later this year.<\/p>\n
The business group has also set up a travel agent in Bau-Bau,
\nthe capital of Buton regency, in cooperation with two
\norganizations, the SAMA and YADI foundations.<\/p>\n
The SAMA foundation will guide the indigenous Bajoe people in
\nTomia in supporting the marine environment preservation program,
\nwhile the YADI foundation will provide supporting infrastructures
