Swiss company opens up turbine workshop here<\/p>\n
CIKAMPEK, West Java (JP): PT Hickham Indonesia, a subsidiary
\nof Sulzer Turbo Ltd. of Switzerland, opened a turbine repair and
\nreconditioning center in Cikampek, West Java yesterday.<\/p>\n
Hickham Indonesia is 80 percent owned by Sulzer Turbo and 20
\npercent by Indonesian businessman Bambang Muliawan.<\/p>\n
Minister of Industry Tunky Ariwibowo said in his written
\nspeech at the workshop's opening ceremony that the workshop will
\nhelp improve the country's industrial activities.<\/p>\n
The workshop can provide repair and reconditioning services
\nfor high technology machinery, including large diesel engines of
\nup to 10,000 horsepower.<\/p>\n

\nEffendi Sudarsono officiated the opening of the workshop, which
\nis located in the Bukit Indah City Industrial Estate, some 70 km
\neast of Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The company's president, Hans W. Stickler, said the turbine
\nrepair center is under supervision of the Sulzer Turbo Research
\nCenter of Switzerland and is employing experts from Hickham
\nIndustries Ltd. of the United States.<\/p>\n
Hanging cranes<\/p>\n
He said the workshop has hanging cranes which can lift
\nmachines of up to 25.5 tons.<\/p>\n
"By opening the first turbine repair and reconditioning center
\nhere, Indonesia can save up to $50 million in foreign exchange
\nfor machine reparations," he said.<\/p>\n
He said the cost for repairing turbine machines in neighboring
\ncountries will be equivalent to about 75 percent of the price of
\nnew machines, but it will be only about half in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Hickam Indonesia was set up with an investment of $9.8
\nmillion.<\/p>\n
The company also provides after-sales services for a wide
\nrange of steam and gas turbines, centrifugal, axial and screw
\ncompressors, expanders pumps and related equipment.(kod)<\/p>",
