'Sweeping' is a suicidal act: Hamzah Haz<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Vice President Hamzah Haz who is also the chairman of
\nthe country's third largest Islamic-based party the United
\nDevelopment Party (PPP) renewed his appeal on Tuesday for Muslims
\ngroups not to conduct searches or 'sweeping' against foreigners
\nin the wake of the U.S. plan to strike Afghanistan, reports said.<\/p>\n
\"Sweeping is a suicidal act. Others will take advantage of it,
\nnot us,\" Hamzah said as quoted by Antara on the sidelines of a
\nbusiness meeting in West Kalimantan.<\/p>\n
Hamzah was accompanied by West Kalimantan Governor Aspar
\nAswin.<\/p>\n
Hamzah, a senior politician, further warned Indonesians not to
\noverreact to current political issues and not to resort to
\nviolence.<\/p>\n
Several radical Muslim groups here have threatened to hunt
\ndown and expel Americans following the U.S. planned attack on
\nAfghanistan.<\/p>\n
The Vice President expressed his feelings, saying that he has
\nbeen in the job \"too long\" in the light of all the country's
\ncomplex problems.<\/p>",
