Swedish aid for forest fires<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) handed
\nover forest fire-fighting equipment worth $750,000 from the
\nSwedish government to the Indonesian government yesterday.<\/p>\n
UNDP resident representative Ravi Rajan said the equipment
\nwas to help Indonesia improve its capability to fight forest
\nfires in Sumatra and Kalimantan.<\/p>\n
The donation was given in a ceremony attended by Rajan,
\nCoordinating Minister for People's Welfare Azwar Anaz and Swedish
\nAmbassador to Indonesia Mikael Lindstrom.<\/p>\n
The Swedish Rescue Services Agency, which provided the
\ndonation, has so far given a variety of assistance equal to
\nroughly Rp 10 billion (US$1 million), the UNDP said.<\/p>\n
The latest donation consists of 10 sets of basic fire-fighting
\nequipment and 10 seats of peat fire-fighting equipment as well as
\nprotective clothing. Also included are four Swedish fire-fighting
\ninstructors who will train 60 prospective instructors in Riau and
\nin East Kalimantan.<\/p>",
