The Bali Natural Resources\nConservation Agency (BKSDA) has provided a scientific explanation.<\/p>\n<p>The head of BKSDA Bali, Ratna Hendratmoko, explained that in\nentomological studies, bees are social insects with adaptation\nmechanisms to environmental changes, often due to weather\nvariations.<\/p>\n<p>Ratna stated that bees are ectothermic animals whose body temperature\nregulation heavily depends on their surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe phenomenon of colony movement (swarming) aims to find a new\nnest. It commonly occurs when the old habitat no longer supports them;\nthere are changes in environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, or\ndisturbances); or the bee colony grows and requires new space. This\nphenomenon can also be examined from an ecological perspective as a\nresponse of organisms to ecosystem dynamics,\u201d said Ratna in a written\nstatement to detikBali.<\/p>\n<p>BKSDA Bali, she added, has coordinated and consulted with an academic\nfigure from Udayana University\u2019s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural\nSciences, Prof Ni Luh Putu Eswaryanti, to verify this phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe verified that the transitional season, intense heat, and wind\ncan trigger bee colony movement to more favourable locations,\u201d she\ncontinued.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the Bali Mandara Toll Road is located near the mangrove\narea of Tahura Ngurah Rai, which is a natural habitat for insects like\nbees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich utilise nectar from mangrove flowers. The infrastructure of\nthe Bali Mandara Toll Road structures (underpasses or tunnels) provide\nprotection from rain, strong winds, extreme temperature changes, and\nminimal disturbances from predators, making it an ideal place to build\nnests,\u201d explained Ratna.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Ratna continued, no motorists were injured due to the\nphenomenon, although the bees\u2019 activity is aggressively massive.\nHowever, traffic conditions have also started to become conducive.<\/p>\n<p>Ratna concluded that this phenomenon is not unusual but part of the\nbees\u2019 adaptation process to environmental changes.
