        "content": "<p>Suu Kyi calls for ASEAN support<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi<br>\ncalled on ASEAN on Tuesday to harden its stance toward the junta<br>\nin Yangon, saying the bloc does not have a &quot;clear conscience&quot; on<br>\nhuman rights.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate accused<br>\nthe Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) of hiding<br>\nbehind concepts like &quot;Asian values&quot; and &quot;non-interference&quot; to<br>\navoid taking on the junta.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The democratization process in Burma can be accelerated if<br>\nthe international community -- (ASEAN) in particular -- increases<br>\npressure on the military regime,&quot; she wrote in an article for<br>\nThailand&apos;s Nation daily.<\/p>\n<p>Aung San Suu Kyi&apos;s National League for Democracy (NLD) party<br>\nwon a landslide victory in 1990 elections but the junta has<br>\nrefused to yield power.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of democracy supporters, including scores of NLD<br>\nMPs, have been harassed and imprisoned since the election.<\/p>",
