Sutiyoso warns road contractor<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: City Governor Sutiyoso threatened on Wednesday to
\ncancel road repair work by a contractor on Jl. Iskandar Muda,
\nSouth Jakarta, as it had caused heavy traffic jams in the area
\nover the last few days.<\/p>\n
\"We can retender the road repair project if the contractor is
\nproved to have violated its working contract,\" Sutiyoso told
\nreporters at City Hall on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He said he would ask city Public Works chief IGK Suena to
\nexplain the repair contract and warn the contractor.<\/p>\n
He said the contractor should have liaised with related
\nparties, such as the city Traffic Control and Land Transportation
\nAgency (DLLAJ) before starting the repair work, to avoid traffic
\njams.<\/p>\n
Suena could not be reached for comment, while his staff said
\nthat the work was being supervised by the South Jakarta Public
\nWorks office.<\/p>\n
Heavy traffic jams have occurred in the last few days on the
\nroad and others adjacent to it.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, DLLAJ chief Rustam Effendy apologized to the public
\nfor any inconvenience caused by the road repairs, saying that
\nthey were unavoidable.<\/p>",
