Sutiyoso told to delay busway project<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso has been told to delay the
\nimplementation of a busway project connecting Blok M in South
\nJakarta to Kota in Central Jakarta because more preparation is
\nneeded.<\/p>\n
"Initially, I hoped that Sutiyoso would learn from a number of
\nLatin American countries that he visited that a busway system
\nrequires good preparation," the chairman of the Jakarta Residents
\nForum, Azas Tigor Nainggolan, was quoted by Antara as saying on
\nSunday.<\/p>\n
He said Sutiyoso did not understand the basic concepts of a
\nbusway system, a system that according to him is not meant to be
\nthe solution to all traffic problems.<\/p>\n
The governor has said the busway system will allow people to
\nenjoy comfortable public transportation.<\/p>\n
Tigor said a busway should be incorporated into the whole
\ntransportation system of the city.<\/p>\n
He also criticized the city administration for not involving
\nthe public in the drafting of its transportation policies.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso and a number of officials recently returned from a
\ntrip that took them to a number of cities in Latin American,
\nincluding Bogota, Quito, Sao Paulo and Mexico City. The purpose
\nof the trip was to study the transportation systems in these
