Sutanto, the<br>\nsole candidate for the post of National Police chief -- which is<br>\nscheduled for Monday at the House of Representatives, will be<br>\nopen to the public, a lawmaker announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Patrialis Akbar from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction<br>\nsaid the decision had been agreed upon by House Commission III,<br>\nwhich will hold the hearings.<\/p>\n<p>Previous interviews for officials nominated for top state and<br>\ngovernment posts had always been done during closed-door<br>\nmeetings.<\/p>\n<p>Patrialis said that ahead of the interview of Sutanto, people<br>\nwould be given a chance to give information and data on the<br>\npolice chief candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Patrialis also said 11 members of Commission III visited<br>\nSutanto&apos;s home in Jakarta on Thursday ahead of the official<br>\nhearings.<\/p>\n<p>The visit was aimed at making sure Sutanto&apos;s family was<br>\nprepared to allow him to assume the tough job as the new police<br>\nchief, Patrialis added.<\/p>\n<p>Such a meeting, he said, was normally held by House members as<br>\npart of similar screening processes for other candidates<br>\nnominated as government agency heads. --Antara<\/p>",
