Suspects named in Jambi graft case<\/p>\n

Jambi Police announced on Monday they have named three suspects
\nin a Rp 5.2 billion (US$577,777) graft case in Sarolangung
\nregency.<\/p>\n
The money was allocated in the regental budget to finance the
\nPonton port development project.<\/p>\n
The three suspects are project chief Bustami, contractor Ayong
\nalias Suwandi and an unidentified supervisor.<\/p>\n
Sarolangun Regent M. Madel would likely be grilled in the
\ncorruption scam if new evidence was found to show his alleged
\ninvolvement, Jambi Police chief of detectives Sr. Comr. Budi
\nHarsono said.<\/p>\n
\"We will continue investigating the case based on statements
\nfrom the suspects,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Budi said charges were laid against the suspects after several
\nwitnesses were questioned, who were directly or indirectly
\ninvolved in the port project.<\/p>\n
The case was uncovered after a 55-meter-long and 12-meter-wide
\nbridge, which was built in 2003 as part of the project, collapsed
\nrecently.<\/p>\n
The Sarolangun administration insisted the bridge had
\ncollapsed due to flooding, which had damaged its foundation.<\/p>\n
Many officials of the Jambi administration and local
\nresidents, however, were unconvinced by that argument.<\/p>\n
Jambi Governor Zulkifli Nurdin asked the police to investigate
\nthe construction of the bridge and to find out who was
\nresponsible.<\/p>\n
The governor said he was ready to issue the necessary permits
\nfor the police to summon local senior officials implicated in the
\nalleged scam.<\/p>",
