Suspected wife killer charged with premeditated murder<\/p>\n

Jakarta Police have charged a Sumatra man and his cousin for
\npremeditated murder of the man's Japanese wife for more than Rp
\n800 million (US$83,000) of her money.<\/p>\n
City police charged Eddie Alharisons, 25, of premeditated
\nmurder of Tomoko Ishizawa, 30.<\/p>\n
General crimes unit chief Sr. Comr. Suhardi Alius said based
\non evidence and witnesses, Eddie and his cousin Jonni Rahman, 21,
\nformulated a plan to murder Tomoko for the Rp 800 million in her
\nbank account.<\/p>\n
\"After learning that his wife had a lot of money, he
\ncooperated with his cousin Jonni to plan to kill his wife,\"
\nSuhardi said.<\/p>\n
Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder
\ncarries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Another suspect,
\nJulia Asmarani, who is Eddie's second wife, was charged with
\nhelping the murder, Suhardi said.<\/p>\n
All the suspects were now being detained at the West Sumatra
\nPolice detention center, pending completion of their case files,
\nwhich Suhardi said would be delivered shortly to the West Sumatra
\nProsecutor's Office.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police revealed on Wednesday that they had arrested
\nEddie in his home in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra, on Saturday, after
\nseveral days of investigation.<\/p>\n
The investigation was made following an earlier report from
\nthe Japanese Embassy that Ishizawa had been missing since April.<\/p>\n
Eddie admitted to police he had killed his wife on April 26
\nbecause he wanted to get Ishizawa's money and confessed to
\nburying his wife in a forest.<\/p>\n
The police later unearthed Ishizawa's body and examined it in
\npolice laboratory.<\/p>\n
\"We have a lot of useful information from the Japanese police,
\nincluding Eddie's e-mail records and CCTV records from Citibank
\nproving that Eddie had withdrawn (Ishizawa's) money hundreds of
\ntimes from the bank,\" Suhardi said.<\/p>\n
Based on that evidence the police arrested Eddie and the two
\nother suspects in Payakumbuh.<\/p>\n
\"We have examined Ishizawa's body. Her family members, who
\nhave come to West Sumatra, will incinerate her body today
\n(Thursday), and will take her remains to Japan,\" Suhardi said.<\/p>\n
Eddie married Ishizawa, who some reports said was a plant
\nresearcher, in Yogyakarta in 2003. After a year of marriage,
\nTomoko went back to Japan. Both continued to stay in contact by
\ne-mail.<\/p>\n
During this period, Eddie married Julia but he kept his second
\nmarriage a secret from Ishizawa.<\/p>\n
On April 25, Eddie and Rahman picked up Ishizawa who had flown
\nfrom Japan to Pekanbaru Airport and brought her to Payakumbuh.<\/p>\n
Eddie strangled his wife in their bed with a plastic rope at 5
\na.m. on April 26. Rahman later helped tie up and bury Tomoko's
\nbody.<\/p>\n
Tomoko's family, who expected her to come home on May 1,
\nreported her disappearance to the Japanese police after they
\ncould not contact her for more than a week. The Japanese police
\ncontacted the embassy in Jakarta, which then reported the case to
\nthe Jakarta Police.<\/p>",
