JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Chair of DPR RI Commission III,\nHabiburokhman, stated that his side will summon the Karo District\nProsecutor\u2019s Office along with the public prosecutors and the\nProsecutorial Commission, regarding allegations of propaganda in the\nhandling of the videographer Amsal Sitepu\u2019s case.<\/p>\n
Habiburokhman explained that the propaganda relates to suspected\nsteering of public opinion concerning the request for detention\nsuspension by Commission III, which was accused of not following\nprocedure.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a narrative built by the Prosecutor\u2019s Office there, by the\nKaro District Prosecutor\u2019s Office, which is indeed misleading. Among\nthem is regarding the detention suspension. The detention suspension is\na request from Commission III\u2014request, mind you\u2014in language, which was\ngranted by the judge. A court product, granted by the court,\u201d said\nHabiburokhman during a press conference at the DPR RI Building on\nWednesday (1\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cIt should be, when granted, Amsal here shouldn\u2019t return to the\nprison (detention centre) again. He should have been released right\nthen. But our colleague Mr Hinca Panjaitan had to wait several hours,\nwaiting for the prosecutor from the Karo District Prosecutor\u2019s Office to\ncome and sign the documents, and they created propaganda as if we\nviolated the procedure, when in fact they are the ones who went far\nbeyond the substantive procedure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
At the same time, DPR RI Commission III is also pushing the\nProsecutorial Commission to evaluate the prosecutors handling Amsal\u2019s\ncase.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will summon the Karo District Prosecutor\u2019s Office along with\ntheir public prosecutors tomorrow (Thursday, 2 April 2026), and we will\nalso invite the Prosecutorial Commission to conduct an evaluation of\nsuch matters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Gerindra politician emphasised that the summons of the Karo\nDistrict Prosecutor\u2019s Office and the Prosecutorial Commission is also to\ntest the allegations of efforts to steer public opinion.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we will summon, we will hear what their reasons are if indeed\nthey are the ones doing the propaganda, steering statements as if the\npeople\u2019s aspirations are wrong, and as if we are intervening. We will\ncheck tomorrow here what it\u2019s like,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
\u201cIts stance is 180 degrees opposite to the prosecutorial leadership.\nMr Attorney General, Mr Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes, Mr\nDeputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Mr Deputy Attorney General\nfor Supervision, Mr Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence, all of\nthem always give very positive responses to input from the DPR based on\nthe people\u2019s aspirations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut at the lower level, we want to see what the evaluation is like,\nespecially at the Karo District Prosecutor\u2019s Office. We are very\ndisappointed. We are ready to be accountable for what we have carried\nout in the past few days regarding Amsal Sitepu. We are ready,\u201d he\nconcluded.<\/p>\n
Previously reported, the Medan District Court panel of judges issued\na not guilty verdict for Amsal Sitepu in the alleged corruption case of\nproducing village profile videos in Karo Regency, on Wednesday\n(1\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
