Susilo nominated for president<\/p>\n

The Democrats Party has nominated Coordinating Minister for
\nPolitical and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, as a
\npresidential candidate for 2004 election.<\/p>\n
The party has come to this decision in view of Yudhoyono's
\nnationalism, religiosity, pluralist views and humanism, qualities
\nallowing him to solve all conflicts now sweeping Indonesia.<\/p>\n
As Yudhoyono is one of the initiators of the Democrats Party,
\nit is understandable why the party has nominated him as a
\npresidential candidate. Then, given that he usually impresses us
\nas a considerate and wise person, there is nothing wrong with
\nthis nomination.<\/p>\n
It is still a common practice in this country that certain
\ngovernment officials from a political party still maintain their
\nattachment with their party so that it is not clear whether their
\nactivities are carried out in their capacity of government
\nofficials or as party members. Obviously, this situation leads to
\na conflict of interest, a condition which may later trigger
\nirregularities.<\/p>\n
Therefore, in the case of the nomination of Yudhoyono as a
\npresidential candidate, he must decide whether to remain in
\noffice and reject the nomination or run for the presidency and
\nquit his office. In this way, he will serve as a role model for
\nother government bureaucrats.<\/p>\n
