Susilo concludes successful China visit<\/p>\n

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono wrapped up his trip to China
\non Saturday by visiting Shenzhen in the southern part of China,
\nafter sealing multibillion dollar deals with the Asian giant on
\ninvestment, defense technology and education.<\/p>\n
\"The reason for visiting Shenzhen is to learn from a city
\nthat, within 25 years, has transformed itself into a center for
\nthe technology industry and transportation,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"Shenzen's GDP per capita currently stands at US$7,000 and
\nwithin five years that figure is expected to reach $13,000.\"<\/p>\n
\"We have Batam but why can't it be like Shenzhen. We have to
\nlearn to develop the system and management of an industrial
\nestate like this.\"<\/p>\n
A day earlier, members of the private sector from the two
\ncountries signed four principal agreements and three memorandums
\nof understanding on energy and infrastructure worth more than $7
\nbillion.<\/p>\n
In Shenzhen, Susilo and his entourage visited Huawei
\nTechnologies Company Ltd. and Neptunus Pharmaceutical Group
\nCompany Ltd.<\/p>\n
Huawei is a network solutions company specializing in the
\nresearch, development, production and marketing of communications
\nequipment. The company has sold its products in more than 90
\ncountries and boasts eight regional headquarters and 55 branch
\noffices outside of China.<\/p>\n
Established in 1988, Huawei's 2004 sales revenue stood at
\n$2.28 billion from its market penetration in Asia, Africa, east
\nEurope and South America.<\/p>\n
The firm offers wireless networks, fixed networks, optical
\nnetworks, data communications, value-added telecom services and
\nwireless terminals.<\/p>\n
The chairman of Indonesia's National Economic Recovery
\nCommittee, Sofjan Wanandi, said the reason behind Huawei's
\nsuccess -- as with other Chinese products -- was low prices.<\/p>\n
\"Huawei offers cheap prices that can be as much as 30 percent
\nbelow international market prices,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Neptunus Pharmaceuticals, which was established in 1989, is
\ninvolved in the research, manufacture and sale of prescription
\nmedicines and over-the-counter drugs.<\/p>\n
After visiting the two companies, the President and his
\nentourage flew back home to Jakarta, arriving on Saturday
\nafternoon.<\/p>",
