Surjadi ignorant of waste plan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has denied knowledge
\nof the intentions of a private Malaysian firm to work with the
\ncity in managing its waste.<\/p>\n
He was responding to reports that the private construction and
\ninfrastructure firm, Bescorp Industries Bhd, had entered an
\nagreement to jointly privatize waste management with a group
\ncalled Task Force Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The new joint venture would be called PT Malindo Cipta
\nNusantara, New Strait Times daily reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Surjadi said Friday he had not even \"smelled\" such news,
\nalthough he said such a cooperation was possible in the future.<\/p>\n
The report said the US$2 billion project covered a 50-year
\nconcession. Bescorp would hold a 60 percent stake while the
\ncity's sanitation agency would have 20 percent.<\/p>\n
PT Malindo would have an initial paid-up capital of $8 million
\nfor its stake in the company.<\/p>\n
According to the report, which quoted a statement of Perwira
\nAffin Merchant Bank Bhd on behalf of Bescorp, Bescorp will
\nreceive a minimum monthly revenue of $30 million for waste
\ncollection in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The agreement also covered waste disposal, recycling and
