        "content": "<p>'Surabaya Post' employees stage demo<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA: Dozens of journalists and workers from the closed <br>\nSurabaya Post daily protested in front of the East Java <br>\nlegislative council on Monday, demanding that management hold an <br>\nextraordinary shareholders' meeting to decide their fate.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters were received by the chairman of the council's <br>\nCommission E, Harbiah Salahuddin, and other legislators.<\/p>\n<p>Syaiful Irwan, the head of the newspaper's labor union, said <br>\nIndra Jaya Aziz, one of the Surabaya Post's shareholders, failed <br>\nto abide by an agreement made during a shareholders' meeting on <br>\nMay 29, in which the management was to pay workers their last <br>\nmonth's salary on June 3.<\/p>\n<p>It was also agreed at the meeting to allow the entry of new <br>\ninvestors and that Indra Jaya would resign as president director <br>\nof the publishing company.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the workers' complaints, Harbiah vowed to summon <br>\nthe shareholders of the Surabaya Post for a hearing with <br>\nlegislators on June 10.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper ceased publication on May 1 because of financial <br>\ndifficulties. --Antara<\/p>",
