        "content": "<p>Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The Surabaya Chamber of Commerce and\nIndustry (KADIN) stated that power supply disruptions over the past two\nweeks have had a major impact on business continuity, especially for\nmicro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are highlighting the impact of power supply disruptions occurring\nin several areas, which have the potential to disrupt economic activity,\nparticularly for UMKM players, home-based businesses, small and medium\nindustries, as well as the trade and services sector,\u201d said KADIN\nSurabaya Chairman M. Ali Affandi L.N.M in Surabaya on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Affandi stressed that the repeated power supply disruptions\nrequire serious attention because their effects are felt directly by the\ncommunity and the business world. He noted that electricity is now one\nof the main foundations of modern economic activity, not only for large\nfactories but also for UMKM that depend on it.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that many housewives rely on frozen food businesses for\nfamily income, laundry owners are forced to stop work, traders lose\nproducts because cooling systems fail, and small business operators lose\nproduction time and income opportunities. \u201cTherefore, power supply\ndisruptions must be seen as a community economic issue, not merely a\ntechnical network problem,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that UMKM and home-based businesses are the groups most\nvulnerable to power supply disruptions because most do not have backup\nfacilities such as generators or energy storage systems. The impact is\nfelt across various daily small business sectors, including frozen food\nbusinesses, catering, bakeries, cold beverage sellers, food stalls,\nlaundries, tailors, small-scale printing shops, workshops, grocery\nstores, and digital-based enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that East Java\u2019s energy needs will continue to rise along\nwith the development of industrial estates, logistics centres, modern\ntrade, the digital industry, and new investments entering the region.\nTherefore, Ali Affandi reminded that this condition must be balanced\nwith adequate strengthening of electricity infrastructure so that it\ndoes not become an obstacle to economic growth. \u201cPower supply\ndisruptions cannot be considered merely a technical issue.
