Supriati wins Olympic Day Run<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's top runners Supriati Sutono and
\nEduard Nabunome won the Jakarta 1999 Olympic Day Run on Sunday
\nmorning, held to commemorate the capital's 472nd anniversary.<\/p>\n
Supriati, the 1998 Asian Games gold medalist in the women's
\n5,000m, won the 10km women's elite group with a time of 35:12.6
\nand Eduard, a marathon specialist, took first in the 10km men's
\nelite group, clocking 30:44.4.<\/p>\n
The one-day competition, which offered Rp 35 million in
\nprizes, was overseen by chairman of the National Sports Council
\n(KONI) Wismoyo Arismunandar and Governor Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that 5,000 people from all walks of life
\nparticipated in the competition, which started and finished at
\nthe West Plaza of Senayan stadium, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Supriati and Eduard are currently attending a training center
\nbeing held by the Indonesian Amateur Athletic Association for the
\n20th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. The run's elite group featured
\nmostly athletes who are being groomed for the SEA Games or who
\nare attending the long-term training center.<\/p>\n
Women's marathon runner Ruwiyati from Perumka Club in
\nSalatiga, Central Java, followed Supriati in second place by
\nclocking 35:42.3, and Rumini Sudragmi of Cikampek was third with
\n39:44.9.<\/p>\n
Eduard's fellow in the training center, Antonius Fallo, came
\nsecond with 31:10.3, and, 22.9 seconds later, Calisto DaCosta
\ntook the finish with 31:33.2.<\/p>\n
In the men's 10km general group, Gusti Gee K. from the Army's
\nOfficer Candidate School came first with 32:21.4, followed by
\nYefta Betti from Bojong Gede with 32:22.1 and Ferry Junaedy from
\nPengalengan, West Java, with 32:22.5.<\/p>\n
Unik Setyorini from Perumka Club won the women's 10km general
\ngroup with 37:14.8. Erni Ulatningsih from Dragon Club in Salatiga
\nwas second with 37:44.9 and Evi Sulesi, Unik's fellow runner was
\nthird with 38:33.9.<\/p>\n
Climbing<\/p>\n
Separately, Achmad Husein, chief of promotion division of the
\nIndonesian Climbing Federation (FPTI), said that three out of
\nfour national climbers have improved their world records in the
\nESPN-sponsored X-treme Games in San Francisco.<\/p>\n
Achmad was quoted by Antara on Sunday that Etta Hendrawati
\nfinished third in speed events with the time 22.98 seconds, while
\nher fellow climber Nur Ruhman Rosyid from Yogyakarta, also
\ncompeting in the speed events, climbed from eight place to sixth
\nwith 15.52.<\/p>\n
Ronald N. Marimbing, who was in 14th position, rose to 10th
\nposition in the same event with 17.52. However, senior climber
\nYuyun Yuniar, failed to retain her second rank in the speed
\nevents and sloped to 10th with 27.93 .<\/p>\n
Achmad said the result was in line with FPTI's wish to send
\nits climbers in the international championship to gain
\nexperience.<\/p>\n
Aaron Shamy and Chris Bloch, both from U.S., exchanged
\npositions in the top three of the men's event. Aaron, who was
\nsecond, rose to first place by clocking 12.61 and Chris was
\nsecond with 13.62.<\/p>\n
Vladimir Nesvetaev of Russia was third.<\/p>\n
In the women's event, newcomers, including Etta, dominated the
\ntop three spots. Polish climber Renata Piszczek won first place
\nwith 20.39 seconds while Olga Zakharova from Ukraine was second
