Supreme audit body, House strive for clean government<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The House of Representatives (DPR) and the
\nSupreme Audit Agency (BPK) agreed on Tuesday to join forces in
\nthe drive to develop a clean government that is free from
\ncorruption, collusion and nepotism.<\/p>\n
The two state institutions expressed their determination to
\nstrive for good governance in a cooperation agreement signed by
\nHouse Speaker Harmoko and BPK Chairman Satrio .B. Joedono.<\/p>\n
Under the agreement, BPK will report to DPR the findings of
\nits annual audit of the state budget, its semester audit of state
\nfinances and its audits of individual projects.<\/p>\n
\"The audit reports from BPK will greatly help the House to
\nexercise a more effective control over state finances and the
\noverall implementation of the state budget,\" Harmoko said after
\nthe signing of the agreement.<\/p>\n
Different from the Government Comptroller Agency (BPKP) which
\nreports and answers to the government, BPK reports only to the
\nHouse.<\/p>\n
The agreement also details procedures for periodical
\nconsultations between BPK and the House about audit reports.<\/p>\n
\"This agreement shows our joint determination to build a good
\nsystem of governance,\" Harmoko added.<\/p>\n
The people, he said, have now become more critical of the
\nconduct of the government and want to see state supervisory
\ninstitutions more vigorous in executing their functions.<\/p>\n
The Special Session of the People's Consultative Assembly last
\nmonth issued a special decree that requires the creation of a
\nsystem of good governance and a more vigorous drive against
\ncorruption, collusion and nepotism which have been proven
\nhallmarks of the bygone Soeharto administration.<\/p>\n
\"We in the House are now more determined to exercise more
\nvigorous control of the government, and we hope that BPK also
\nwill work in the same spirit,\" Harmoko was quoted by Antara as
