The Attorney General need not hesitate about upholding the
\nsupremacy of the law in conjunction with the eradication of
\ncorruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN), particularly in the
\ncase of Buloggate II. There is no reason for Attorney General MA
\nRachman to revoke the detention warrant for Akbar Tandjung, even
\nthough the Golkar party has asked him to do so.<\/p>\n
The detention of former state secretary and incumbent House
\nSpeaker Akbar Tandjung by the Attorney General's Office is an
\ninteresting phenomenon worth close observation, particularly
\nwithin the framework of legal certainty and the realization of
\nthe supremacy of the law.<\/p>\n
In this context, the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian
\nCatholic Students Association (PP PMKRI) considers the detention
\nof Akbar Tandjung, allegedly involved in the misuse of
\nnonbudgetary funds, a step forward in the country's law
\nenforcement process.<\/p>\n
This gives us some hope and shows that efforts to uphold the
\nlaw and to eradicate KKN form an important part of the total
\nreform agenda that has now started.<\/p>\n
However, people will still have to look at how this case
\ndevelops and is put to the test in further legal processing, a
\nyardstick of the seriousness of the Attorney General to respond
\nto the hopes and demands of the public concerning enforcement of
\nthe law and the eradication of KKN.<\/p>\n
The detention of Akbar Tandjung has also demonstrated that
\nthere is no more discrimination against the country's people
\nbefore the law.<\/p>\n
The Attorney General's courage to detain Akbar Tandjung should
\nalso be supported by all elements of society so that there is no
\ndistortion of the facts in further legal processing.<\/p>\n
Based on the outlook and the thoughts referred to above, PP
\nPMKRI states its stance as follows:
\n1. It supports the decision of the Attorney General's Office to
\ndetain Akbar Tandjung, who is allegedly involved in the Buloggate
\nII case.
\n2. It demands that the AGO be consistent in carrying out the
\nprocess of law enforcement transparently.
\n3. It urges all strategic political forces in the executive and
\nlegislative agencies, as well as society at large, to exercise
\npolitical control.<\/p>\n
