Suppliers of workers elect leader<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Anthon Sihombing has been elected as the
\nchairman of the Jakarta chapter of the Organization of Indonesian
\nManpower Suppliers (HP2TKI) for the 1994-1999 term.<\/p>\n
The election of Anthon in a one-day conference was attended by
\n60 participants on Friday. M. Idrus was chosen as the chapter's
\nsecretary and Abdul Madjid as treasurer.<\/p>\n
Tantyo AP Sudharmono, general chairman of the association,
\ndenied reports that the organization was part of the Association
\nof the Indonesian Manpower Suppliers.<\/p>\n
HP2TKI was legally established in May, 1993, with the aim of
\nimproving the quality of Indonesian workers being sent abroad.<\/p>\n
Tantyo said his organization so far has 18 branches operating
\nthroughout the country.<\/p>\n
Next year the Jakarta chapter of the organization will
\ncooperate with the city administration in collecting data on the
\nnumber of house maids working in the city, Anthon said.<\/p>\n
The data is required to check on the rates earned by maids. It
\nis also vital so the organization can study the type of labor
\nrights required by maids.<\/p>\n
Under its long-term program, the chapter will hold training
\ncourses for Indonesian workers to enable them to meet the
\nrequirements of the foreign manpower market. (hhr)<\/p>",
